Paints and coatings industry experts discuss government support
A round table on Government Support Measures for Paints and Coatings Producers has taken place at the Interlakokraska 2019 international exhibition at Expocentre Fairgrounds.
The event was organised by the Chimvest Scientific and Technical Centre of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade with the support of Expocentre AO. Chimvest Director Vladimir Savchuk was the round table moderator.
The first report was delivered by Valeria Butsenko, senior chemical industry specialist of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Timber Industry of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. She told the audience about the results of government measures placing special emphasis on the projects implemented in 2016-2018 and plans for 2019.
The speech of Ekaterina Udalova from the Russian Agency for Export Credit and Investment Insurance (EXIAR) of the Russian Export Center Group triggered a discussion. The exchange of opinions uncovered a serious problem of the paints and coatings industry.
According to the experts, the biggest corporations are introducing their product certification and accreditation systems, that is creating certain impediments and increased costs for domestic producers. The costly certification does not guarantee any increase in the demand for one's products, as a result, many companies neglect the procedure. In the opinion of the debate participants, the creation of a uniform industry standard and a possibility of partial subsidizing of certification costs could improve quality of Russiian-made products and boost fair competition in the market.
Chimvest Deputy Director Igor Lyashkov delivered a report on information support for Russian chemical enterprises. There were also reports by the Industry Development Fund and Primsotsbank regarding discount rates of business loans. The round table participants discussed realistic ways of obtaining government support and asked their questions.
