05 / 03 / 2020

The International Conference on Paints and Coatings for Ships. The Current Market and its Prospects has taken place within Interlakokraska 2020 at Expocentre Fairgrounds.

The conference organised by the Morskoy Flot (Maritime Fleet) magazine and Expocentre AO with the support of the Centrlack Association brought together key manufacturers of shipbuilding paints and coatings, representatives of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping government agency for technical oversight of marine vessels, and domestic companies either producing or planning to produce shipbuilding paints and coatings.

It was noted at the conference that Russia had approved a domestic shipbuilding program for the period until 2035. New shipbuilding standards require modern technologies and equipment, as well as new characteristics of shipbuilding paints and coatings.

Vladimir Trofimenko, a member of the Russian Ministry of Trade and Industry's Strategic Council for Investment in New Industries and General Director of the Russian Office of Mankiewizc, a leading German manufacturer of premium commercial paints and coatings, commented on the Russian market of shipbuilding paints and coatings and related trends. In his opinion, localization of technologies and intellectual property is essential for developing domestic production of paints and coatings. The expert also spoke about innovations in anti-corrosive coatings implemented by Mankiewizc.

Conference participants discussed government measures supporting domestic shipbuilders as the driver of development of the domestic paint and coating production, relevant norms and legislation, cons and pros of the legislative guillotine, reduced burden of production regulations, technical policy for implementing new shipbuilding and ship maintenance materials, and some other important questions of the industry.
